'MODELE

At 'modele we’re raising funds and promoting initiatives that fulfill these goals:

  • Expose African-Americans to recent African history, and current day development of the African continent.

  • Create a cultural revolution and re-orientation in the African-American community by connecting African-Americans with their African roots and culture.

  • Create a platform to push for collaboration between continental Africans and African-Americans.

We have outlined a number of programs that will help us to fulfill these goals. They include:

Irin-Ajo: Irin-ajo means "journey" in Yoruba language. This program is designed to take a select group of African-Americans on a guided visit to Africa. Countries that will be visited include Nigeria, Ghana, and Rwanda. The tour will take the visitors to inspiring sites and locations of historical significance. The visitors are bound to have a life-changing experience after making the irin-ajo.

OweYooba: "Owe" is the yoruba word for proverbs. African cultures and languages utilize proverbs to contextualize their speech in very significant ways. This program will teach interested participants on African proverbs and their meanings.

Abalawa: The word "abalawa" is a shortened version of the phrase "aba ni a wa" which means "Here we are in the village" in Yoruba language. The program is designed to tell African folk tales and late night games that characterized African village and community lifestyle.
